Wrap Up the Year with Our Thematic Chess Tournament!

Join us on Tuesday, 17 December, for a fun and unique chess experience as we close out the year with our annual novelty blitz. This year’s twist? Thematic openings!

Tournament Details:
• Format: 5-round Swiss
• Time Control: 10 minutes + 2 seconds per move
• Entry Fee: Free!
• Prize: Up for grabs!
• Registration: Open event. No need to pre-register—just head to the desk on the night to have your name added to the draw.

What Makes It Special?
Each round will start with a pre-selected opening based on a secret theme (think Cities, Champions, or Animals). All players will play the same opening for the first few moves, led by organiser Steve Garner, who will guide you through the main ideas of the opening before the games begin.

It’s a fantastic way to expand your knowledge and understanding of openings in a relaxed and fun setting, without risking your rating. Steve has assured us he’s not revealing the openings ahead of time—so you’ll have to come along to see what he’s got planned!
