2025 Norths Rapid Championship

9 rounds over three nights - Tuesdays 22 and 29 April, 6 May

FIDE and ACF rated

Location and time: 7:30 pm, Norths (formerly North Sydney Leagues Club), cnr Abbott & Palmer Streets, Cammeray.
 
Schedule:  22April Rds 1, 2 and 3 |  29 April Rds 4, 5 and 6 | 6 May Rds 7, 8 and 9. Play commences at 7:30 pm.

Format: 9 round (Dutch) Swiss, with pairings by Vega.

Eligibility:

  • Players who are not Australian citizens or permanent residents must have a FIDE ID.
  • To request a FIDE ID from a national Federation contact details for them are @ www.fide.com/directory/member-federations
Fees:

Before 21 April: Norths Chess Club members $15; non-members $25
On/after 21 April: Norths Chess Club members $30; non-members $50

Time Control: All moves in 20 minutes + 10 seconds increment per move from move 1.

Rating: A player's touranment rating (used for pairings and rating prizes) will be determined according to the following hierarchy:

1.. ACF Quick
2. FIDE Rapid

Players without any of these ratings will be considered unrated. Results will be submitted for the ACF Quick and FIDE Rapid rating lists.

Prizes:1st - $350; 2nd - $200 -, 3rd - $120, Rating Group A, B, C, D, E, and unrated $60 each.

Prizes will be shared equally among players on the same score, but each player may receive only one prize.

Tiebreak for the title: of Norths Rapid Champion by

1. Direct encounter.
2. Bucholz Cut 1. 
3. Average rating of opponents Cut 1

Byes: Players may take up to two half-point byes in Rounds 1–7 by advising the organisers the day prior Rounds 1, 4 and 7 and prior to issue of the draw for Rounds 2, 3, 5 and 6.

Rules: The FIDE Laws of Chess apply, including Appendix A: Rapid Chess and Appendix A.4.

Notes

- Rating groups A to E will be decided by the organisers. They will attempt to split the field into groups of roughly equal numbers.
- Rating prizes are awarded based on the rating hierarchy stated in the Rating heading above. Players without any of those ratings are considered to be unrated and are ineligible for rating prizes. A minimum of 3 players is required for a prize to be awarded.

Entries: close Tuesday 22 April 7 PM. Late entrants will be accepted but will not be paired in round 1 and will not be allocated a half-point bye for that round.
