There are opportunities for players of all abilities to enjoy our tournaments. There are prizes in multiple categories for each event.
The
Club Championship is a 9-round competition divided into several divisions according to player ratings. Open only to players who are members of Norths Chess.
The
John Purdy Memorial is a 9-round open competition with Swiss pairings for each round, held in the second half of the year.
Both events are preceded by Blitz competitions.
The
Norths Allegro is an 8-round Swiss competition of four games per night over two weeks.
The
Norths Rapid is a 9-round Swiss competition of three games per night over three weeks.
The 9-round
Ford/Greenwood seniors is open to players aged over 60. Run concurrently with the Seniors, the
Winter Classic is open to players rated under 2200.
Each year the entire Norths Chess Club does battle in home and away games with St George in the
Big Board, and Harbord in the
Little Board.
As well, there is a number of one-off events:
Blitzes, simultaneous games, and more.
Note the number of tournament rounds are sometimes reduced to to venue availability.
